My 5 Favorite Ways to Use Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner

About 6 years ago, I was introduced to Young Living at a wellness gathering. I fell in love with the company and support they and my independent Young Living Distributor offered. She did not try to sell me the products. She told me her story and how Young Living helped her live a more natural lifestyle. At the end of the meeting, she sent me home with a sample of Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner and an invitation to attend a class she was teaching in a couple of days.
I took the Thieves Household Cleaner home and cleaned my bathroom. Halfway through cleaning the tub, I realized I was not wheezing. I finished cleaning the toilet, the sink, and the floor. This amazing cleaner did it all. By the time I was done, my bathroom smelled amazing and I could still breathe. I was sold!

Over the years I have discovered more ways to use this amazing product and eliminate almost all the toxic chemical cleaners I had been using. Here are 5 simple ways I use Young Livings Thieves Household Cleaner.

Number 1
 Surface Spray cleaner
Have you ever read the label of the surface spray cleaners available on your grocery store shelves? They are full of chemicals that can cause endocrine disruption, cancer, and asthma just to name a few side effects they can cause. Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner is plant based and contains none of harsh synthetic chemicals.  I use 1 capful of concentrated Thieves Household Cleaner to 8 to 10 ounces of distilled water to make the surface spray cleaner. I clean my counter tops, stove top, and bathroom surfaces.

Number 2
Tile/Vinyl Floor Cleaner
Many years ago, I worked in a veterinarian’s office. Several times a year we would get a cat with toxicity. After interviewing the pet’s owner, we would discover they had used a popular pine-scented cleaner to clean their floors, and they had not restrained their cat.  The cat had walked across the wet floor and probably licked its feet, ingesting the product by accident. Most of these cases usually occurred during cold and flu season, when people naturally increase their cleaning routines to help combat illness.  That is why I love Young Living’s Thieves Household cleaner - it is plant based and does not contain any synthetic chemicals. I use 1 capful of the Thieves Household Cleaner concentrate to 6 cups of water. Then I spray the floor and damp mop. I even use this on the laminate flooring my husband put down in our living room and dining room.

Number 3
Wood Cleaner
This is probably my favorite use of Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner. My husband and I love going to flea markets and auctions looking for primitive woodwork. An old corner shelf that had been tucked away in the corner of a storage shed or garage for years and covered in dirt is just one such find. I took 1 capful of the Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner and added it to ¾ cup of olive oil and 5 drops of Young Living’s Lemon Essential Oil. Taking a soft cloth, I proceeded to rub and clean the piece. It really brought out the wood’s grain. Today, it hangs proudly in the corner of my kitchen, displaying a few of my angels and a vase with some silk and wooden flowers. I also use this solution on my kitchen cabinets.

Place of honor.

Number 4
Oven Cleaner
Oven before and after.
I have never been able to tolerate the smell of oven cleaner. Even as a child, when my mom would use oven cleaner I would have to go outside because it would make me feel like I couldn’t breathe. When I was still new to Young Living and its products, my daughter bought a house and the oven looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. I told her I had read about using Young Living’s Thieves Household cleaner to replace oven cleaners and asked if she would let me try it. (I am always looking for new ways to use my Thieves, lol.) I took one capful of Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner and added it to ½ cup of  baking soda and 8 drops of Young Living Lemon Essential Oil. I applied it to the surface of the stove with a soft cloth and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then with a clean cloth, I scrubbed the surface and that baked on grease just wiped away. I will never forget my daughter looking at me and saying “Huh…is that what it was supposed to look like?” She was amazed and pleased because she thought she would have to replace the stove.

Number 5
Glass and Mirror Cleaner
This one I use every day. I just love Young Living’s Thieves Glass and Mirror Cleaner! No dyes or harsh smells and boy does it clean windows! My friend had a rental unit and was between renters. She asked me to come over and help her clean it to get it ready for inspection. It was a beautiful summer afternoon, and not only did we clean the inside of the windows, but her husband got up on a ladder and cleaned the outside of the windows also. They were the old-fashioned sash windows - not the tilt-in easy to clean windows like I have at my house. As we finished for the day, the older couple who had been sitting across the street on their porch came over, and the first thing the woman asked was what did we use to clean the windows. She told us she had never seen windows sparkle like that. I add 1 capful of Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner to 3 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of vinegar, and 5 drops of Young Livings Citrus Fresh Essential Oil Blend. I then simply spray the window or mirror surface and wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Over the years, I have become more convinced that I am the gatekeeper of my home, and it is my responsibility to find ways to reduce my family’s exposure to and the bioaccumulation of harsh synthetic chemicals. I may not be able to control their exposure out in the world, but here in my home, I can control what comes inside. These are just a few of the ways I use Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner.
